I think the problem here is whether or not one multiplies or adds facepalms. Let f = a facepalm If it’s multiplication, then 2 facepalms is f * f = f^² But if it’s addition, then 2 facepalms is f + f = 2f Perhaps, though, it depends on what the facepalm is about. If one facepalms in shame of another’s facepalm, then we can define that as multiplication. Conversely, facepalming performed by two individuals with respect to the same event would be two of them, or 2f. Incidently, facepalming due to the above posters’ two facepalms would be f * (f + f) = 2f^² In the same line of thinking, this is the same as two people facepalming due to a single individual’s facepalm, such that (f + f) * f = 2f^² Therefore, facepalming is commutative.
